Slide & Negative Scanning
Slide & 35mm Negative Scanning
Slides were once a very popular way to view your memories projected onto a screen or wall. This way everyone could get together and experience a trip down memory lane together. However, unless you still have a working slide projector, you have no way of enjoying these precious memories. Digitizing your slides allows you to once again enjoy those memories from any device and with others.

Our Slide & Negative Scanning Process

1
Organize & Prepare Your Slides / Negatives
- Gather & Organize: Gather and organize your slides/negatives into groups. Organize them chronologically, by event, or any order you like. Please group similar size negatives into the same groups. If you would like to have slides/negatives custom named, have your groups properly labeled with the name you want for each grouping.
- Flatten Out: If your negatives are curled or bent, gently place them under a heavy book for a few hours to flatten them out. This will ensure the best possible scan quality.
2
Schedule a Pick-up
- Schedule a pick-up date/time that works with your schedule using our online booking system.
- During booking please fill out the questionnaire listing your estimated quantity of slides/negatives you would like scanned. This will help us provide you with an estimated time it will take us to complete your order.
- Retainer: A $50 refundable retainer is required during booking to hold your place in the que. This retainer will be applied towards your final order total.
3
Let the Scanning Adventure Begin!
- We will start scanning your slides/negatives in either 2000, 3000, or 4000 DPI (depending on what package option you choose)
- While providing both the original and enhanced scan you will be able to see side-by-side what the difference technology can make.
4
Enjoy & Share Your Memories
- Once all your slides/negatives are scanned, we will send you an invoice for payment of the completed services
- After payment has been received, you will be emailed a link to your online personal gallery containing your preserved memories
- Your online personal gallery will remain available for 45 days for you to be able to view, share, download, or order other photo products from our online store.
5
Schedule a Delivery
- After you have viewed and are satisfied with your new preserved memories. We will coordinate a date/time with you to deliver your precious keepsake.
- If you added a USB Flash Drive(s) for your slides/negatives to be stored on, they will be provided to you during this time.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does it makes sense to use a slide & negative scanning service?
You can scan your own slides/negatives at home if you own or rent a quality film scanner. But there's a substantial cost involved here in terms of personal time and this is something to consider when you are weighing the pros and cons of DIY versus using a professional scanning service. After all, spending priceless weekend hours scanning many sets of negatives is nobody's idea of fun.
In addition, negatives require special handling because of how delicate they are. Slides/negatives can buildup tiny scratches over time and dust particles also tend to be more entrenched and visible. And so, apart from scanning time, you will have to factor in time required for editing out these blemishes.
That's why we are excited to offer slide/negative scanning services to benefit you in both time and cost, so why not allow us to safeguard those precious memories and put them back in your hands as a simple digital download, USB Flash Drive, or both!

Which DPI should I use 2000, 3000 or 4000 DPI?
2000 DPI: (most common)
- Good for everyday use like sharing images online, viewing on screens, or basic printing.
3000 DPI:
- Higher resolution generating greater detail for larger archival file sizes or printing larger photos
4000 DPI
- Highest resolution possible capturing the most detail or printing larger photos starting at 16"x20"
Which Resolution Is For You:
- For everyday use: Sharing photos online, viewing on screens, or basic printing (5"x7" or smaller) - 2000 DPI is a good choice.
- For higher-quality: Creating prints (11"x14" or smaller) or wanting archival results - 3000 DPI is recommended.
- Professional quality: Creating prints (larger than 11"x14") or wanting to edit your images - 4000 DPI is recommended.
You can downsize a 4000/3000 DPI file to 2000 DPI for online sharing, but you can't increase the detail of a 2000 DPI file if you need the higher resolution later. Know how you will be using your digitized images in the future and select accordingly.
What is "Digital ICE"?
Digital ICE is a technology that allows scanners to identify and remove dust and minor scratches. Digital ICE pre-scans each frame with Infra-red (IR) light to detect surface defects in the negative before the image is captured. Once scans are completed, the software uses an IR defect map to edit the defective areas. The results can drastically improve upon the original exposure. All negatives are scanned on high end scanners that utilize this technology.
How long will my digitized slides & negatives be available in my online personal gallery?
Your online personal gallery will remain available for 45 days for you to be able to view, share, download, or order other photo products from our online store.
If I'm not in the Greensboro or surrounding areas could I mail you my slides & negatives?
Absolutely! If you are outside my normal service area for pick-up/delivery, we might be able to work something out depending on distance. Otherwise, you have the option to mail your slides/negatives to us if you are too far away.
For coordination or to just ask questions, please email, call or fill out the online form to contact us.
